Today was the 52nd day of Liberty residents’ hunger strike, during which 37 hunger strikers were taken for medical care for difficulties resulting from the hunger strike such as intestinal problems, muscle cramps, dizziness, loss of eyesight and hearing.

One of the hunger strikers wrote a letter to the United Nations Secretary-General, saying, “Two of the individuals who were murdered in the September 1 massacre in Ashraf, Saeed Akhavan and Nosser Habashi, were my close friends. I have gone on hunger strike to have their innocent voices heard. Furthermore, the seven hostages in the prisons of the Iraqi Prime Ministry are facing torture and extradition to Iran. Silence and inaction by the UN and US has left us no choice but to launch this hunger strike.”
