Here is my latest article posted on Practical Politicking
On Saturday the Iranian opposition held a very organized and massive meeting in a huge auditorium north of Paris. Members of the Iranian community outside the country gathered from five continents to support the Iranian opposition’s effort to establish democracy and freedom in Iran under the banner of #FreeIran.
Hundreds of political, religious, legal and military dignitaries were joined by human rights and women’s rights advocates delivered speeches in support of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and its President, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, a Muslim woman believing in a tolerant and democratic Islam.
Considered quite significant in this year’s Iranian opposition rally is the launching of a new geopolitical era in the Middle East. This message was vividly expressed in Mrs. Rajavi’s call for regime change in Iran as the sole solution to resolve existing crises emanating from Tehran to the region and the world across.
“The only solution to free the people of Iran and establish peace and tranquility in the region is the overthrow of the Iranian regime,” Mrs. Rajavi said in her speech.
Rajavi’s call and the solution she delivered in Paris was supported and highly cited by the vast gathering and the high-profile dignitaries from the United States, Europe, and the Middle East.
“The regime’s overthrow is possible and within reach, and a democratic alternative and organized resistance exists that can topple it,” she continued.
“Despite the regime’s propaganda, the greatest threat to the regime is not a foreign enemy, but the very revolts in society waiting to erupt and the rising number of protests that reached 11,000 last year as acknowledged by the regime’s officials.”
What needs understanding is the fact that while Tehran may stage many wars abroad, it’s the main conflict is with the Iranian nation.
“From the outset, the regime was at war with the people of Iran. All the other wars waged against foreign countries were designed to cover up this main conflict. These wars are not a sign of the regime’s strength. The problem is that no government in the region has ever attempted to prevent the regime’s belligerence,” Mrs. Rajavi explained.
The existence of a force for change and a democratic alternative guarantees the regime’s overthrow and Iran’s freedom, she added.
Icons of American politics also voiced strong support for this main Iranian opposition movement.
“I come today to bring you a very simple message Iran must be free the dictatorship must be destroyed containment is appeasement and appeasement is surrender the only practical goal is to support a movement to free around any other vote will leave a dictatorship finding ways to get around any agreement and to lie about everything,” said former House Speaker Newt Gingrich to the crowd.
“I think it’s fair to say that the Trump administration has much fewer illusions about the nature of the Iranian dictatorship and I believe that commitment to take steps to help you help all free people everywhere will be clear in this administration,” he added.
“There must be regime change in Iran… The people of Iran will at some point rebel,” said Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
“In this case, there is something different. We have an alternative. Not only do we have regime change, but we have an alternative and that alternative is you. It’s a democratic alternative. It’s a force for change. It’s well organized. It has a vast network of supporters… A freer Iran is on the horizon…. I can say, and I can probably say this with a good deal of authority that the government of the United States supports, we are behind you, we agree with your values,” he added.
“And now the next step is to free Iran,” emphasized Governor Ed Rendell, former chairman of the Democratic National Committee. “And you all know, down deep that regime change is up to the people of Iran. And that means you that means the people that are in Albania, that means Iranian dissidents all around the globe, and that means Iranian dissidents in Iran, in Tehran and all of the different cities. But the United States needs to stand firm and stand behind this movement and I believe we will.”
The Middle East, where Iran has wreaked such havoc, also had a strong voice representing its general views.
“The Iranian people are the first victims of Khomeini’s dictatorship,” said Turki Faisal, the former Saudi ambassador to the United States and the United Kingdom. “Your effort in challenging this regime is legitimate and your resistance for the liberation of the Iranian people of all ethnicities, including Arabs, Kurds, Baluchis, Turks and Fars of the mullahs’ evil, as Mrs. Rajavi said, is a legitimate struggle.”
While Maryam Rajavi called for the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization and Iran’s eviction from the entire region, the convention urged the United Nations, the European Union, the United States and countries in the region to recognize the Iranian people’s resistance to overthrow the mullahs’ religious dictatorship.
