Three Iranian militiamen allowed to enter Camp Liberty
Three Iranian militiamen were allowed to enter Camp Liberty by Iraqi police guarding the entrance.

The Secretariat of the National Council of Resistance of Iran today issued a warning that the government of Iraq appears to be preparing for another attack on Camp Liberty, previously a US base that now is home to Iranian dissidents stranded in Iraq.

The dissidents have virtually no protection from the Iraqi government or the Iranian regime that has control over the puppet Iraqi regime.

The security of Camp Liberty, supposedly protected by the United Nations, and guaranteed by the United States of America, is under threat. The actions of the Paramilitary forces stationed around the camp remind the residents inside the camp of the preparations for the previous bloody attack on Camp Ashraf in September 2013.

During recent days there have been very suspicious activities and measures against Camp Liberty which are the reminder of Iraqi forces’ measures before the Ashraf massacre on 1 September 2013.

On Sunday 18 January, three militiamen entered Camp Liberty under the pretext of going to the Iraqi clinic inside the camp for treatment.

Contrary to their duty of preventing the entry of outsiders and checking their identities of any who do enter, the police officers at the Camp’s entrance did not stop them. The three individuals who entered the camp were unknown to the residents inside the camp.

The three men were wearing a military style uniform, but they were neither from the Iraqi army nor the Iraqi police. Their physical appearance and their beards showed they were Iranian militias.

On Monday, January 19, an Iranian front organization under the control of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) based in the area of Baghdad Airport, used a crane located south of the camp to take films and photos from various parts of the camp, for a long period of time. Residents inside Camp Liberty say a cameraman and photographer could be very clearly seen in the crane’s cage.

At a time that the Iranian regime’s meddling in Iraq is growing day by day, the terrorist militias affiliated with this regime have intensified their reconnaissance activities and preparations for attacking Liberty.

In April, 2013, the US and UN were warned that another massacre may be about to take place, based on the preparations being made for it outside that camp. The UN and US ignored those warnings. See Warning to UN, US: Prepare For Another Massacre of Ashraf and Liberty Residents.

The result of ignoring those warning was that there was a massacre inside the camp, after soldiers dressed in Iraqi army clothing entered the camp. 52 unarmed civilians inside the camp were killed. See Another Massacre Kills 52 Iranian Exiles.

The United States offered its usual condemnation, outrage and crocodile tears.

The US today issued a statement condemning the attack and expressing concern about the terrible events in Iraq.”Our condolences go out to the families of the victims and those who were injured in today’s violence.” – US Deputy Spokesperson, Marie Harf

Ms. Harf said the US government is deeply concerned about these reports and they are in regular contact with the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI), as well as Government of Iraq officials.

The press release issued by the Iranian Resistance states “The Iranian Resistance once again underlines the repeated commitments of the U.S. government and the UN vis-a-vis the safety and security of Liberty residents, all of whom are protected persons under the Fourth Geneva Convention, refugees and asylum-seekers, and people of concern. The Iranian Resistance also asks the U.S. and UN to take necessary security and protective measures immediately.”
