I. Introduction: A case of neglect?

A road traffic accident on 16 March 2015 involving a black-water tanker belonging to Camp Liberty residents near Baghdad International Airport, and an Iraqi HUMVEE has put the spotlight on the way UNHCR is handling the applications for refugee status by the Camp’s residents.

Call for formation of an international committee to investigate crimes of Iranian regime in Camp Ashraf

In a program broadcasted on April 22 and 23 on the prisons and torture centers of the paramilitary forces affiliated with the Iranian regime in Iraq and on the massacre of innocent people, especially the Sunnis, Al-Jazeera TV said: “Some of the abductees were transferred to secret prisons in Ashraf Base. This base formerly belonged to the People’s Mojahedin Organization [PMOI/MEK] but was occupied by the Badr militias. Right now, close to 150 people have been executed by the paramilitary Badr forces in Ashraf and buried in mass graves.”

Pariya: A Wish for Iran

Pariya Kohandel is a young woman who has recently departed Iran and joined the Iranian opposition. She is celebrating her first Persian New Year (Norouz) outside of Iran, while her father and his friends are all political prisoners back inside the country.

Obama signs an amendment to protect Camp Liberty residents

President Obama on has signed the annual U.S. defense policy bill that includes a seven points amendment on the security and protection of members of Iranian opposition, People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI or MEK) in Camp Liberty, Iraq.

The bill approved by the United States House of Representatives and Senate, which has been signed to a law by President Barack Obama on 25 November 2015 states:

Iraqi tribes condemn Iranian regime’s plots against Camp Liberty residents

The brutal attack of October 29, 2015 against Camp Liberty in Iraq met international condemnation including by senior U.S., EU and UN officials. This attack by powerful rockets left 24 members of People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) dead and scores wounded and destroyed sections of this camp. The residents in Camp Liberty are all protected persons by the Fourth Geneva Convention and “people of concern” and asylum-seekers for the UNHCR.
